COVID-19 Personal Protective Equipment
Employers must know how to protect their workers from coronavirus with medical PPE
Protecting workers from the coronavirus, COVID-19 with medical PPE is crucial.
This includes potential interaction with infectious people and contamination of the work environment.
Carry out control of infections and strategies based on a thorough risk assessment. Also, use safe work practices and personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent exposures.
List of Medical PPE for Coronavirus
Perform hand hygiene before and after all contact, contact with an infectious substance, and wearing and taking off PPE.
Also, practice regular hand washing for at least 20 seconds or with alcohol-based wipes.
Note: If hands are visibly soiled, use soap and water, not alcohol-based hand rubs.
Ensure that materials to perform hand hygiene are readily available to all personnel.
Employers must know which PPE is suitable for their workers under the Malaysian OSH Regulations.
Workers must receive training of when to use PPE and which is necessary. Also, how to properly wear, use, dispose PPE, how to properly disinfect and maintain PPE, and the limitations of PPE.

Clean, decontaminate and maintain any reusable PPE properly.
Put on clean, non-sterile safety gloves upon entry into the patient room or care areas. Workers must change gloves if they become torn or heavily contaminated.
Remove and discard gloves immediately upon leaving the patient room or care area. If this is lightly taken, the virus can spread instantly.
Medical PPE Gowns
Workers must wear a clean disposable gown upon entry into the patient room or area. If the isolation gown is somehow stained, front liners must change it immediately.
Remove and discard the medical gown straight after leaving the patient room or care area. This ensures that the virus cannot spread anywhere other than the gown itself.
Respirators as Medical PPE
Upon entry to a care area, wear respiratory protection or a respirator at all times. There are many respirators such as 3M 6200, 3M 6800, 3M 8210 and 3M 7502.
Remove the respirator last of all medical PPE worn. Clean and disinfect reusable respirators according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
As for disposable respirators, remove and discard after leaving the care area and closing the door.
Staff should be medically cleared and fit-tested before using respirators. They should also know the how to use, remove and dispose them properly.

Kill the Virus with Medical PPE
To date, the COVID 19 has spread throughout the whole world to almost 6, 000, 000 cases and 360, 000 deaths globally.
To flatten the curve, front-liners must prepare themselves for the worst by donning the right type of PPE.
